Located on the seafront of The Caribbean and founded by Don Pedro de Heredia on June 01, 1533, Cartagena de Indias has been marked by its history and excellent geographical location, as the most important port in the colony in America at that time, mayor center of the black trade and the victim of numerous raids of pirates, British and Dutch troops, which is why King Philip II entrusted the Field Marshal Luis de Tejada and the Italian engineer Baptist Antonelli to build 11 miles of walls and forts for his defence; was the first territory to achieve independence from the Spanish crown on November 11, 1811.
Declared historical and cultural heritage of the World by UNESCO in 1991. "There are so many things you need to say and tell about Cartagena and so much its charm and magic that only who has been there can understand it." |
